Workgroup Information
Using state of the art Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping tools and the most recent data for the Washington – Aroostook region this task will provide decision makers with the tools they need to prepare and respond to the impacts of sea level rise and extreme weather events.
Desired Outcomes
- A comprehensive evaluation of likely climate change impacts to the region
- Understand and predict infrastructure impacts and develop hazard mitigation responses
- Alignment of federal planning and investment resources that mirror the local and regional strategies for achieving sustainable communities
- Regional and community initiatives that will reflect common direction based on a common vision
Progress to Date
Work on Climate Change and Infrastructure Resilience in Washington County is supported by a stong partnership between WCCOG and the University of Maine at Machias GIS Service Center. While there are region-wide impacts from Climate change in Maine and the Region that are common to both counties, Washington County efforts had a primary focus on storm surge scenario modelling and climate vulnerability assessment.
